Question: Why is every national and international soccer event so much more popular than the superbowl?

Could it be because of the never ending commercials or just the fact that football is only an american sport |

Football is really only a US national pass-time. Apparently almost as many people tune in for the commercials (which can be rather funny) than for the game. |

Well because soccer is considered the most popular and beautiful sport ever by mostly every country on earth, but also just as soccers popularity is growing in the us, i notice that the NFL's popularity is growing in mexico. Hope that answers your question |

Simply put, the reason for the popularity difference is number of people. Besides in the United States, soccer (or more commonly known elsewhere futbol) is the most popular sport in the world. So considering that the U.S. has roughly around 300 million people of the 5.5 billion people in the world it is not hard to see why soccer has a larger following then American football does. |

I speak as a completely biased FOOTBALL (soccer is only really used in the Americas - the game is the only one played exclusively with the feet after all!) fan. Football has few rules, easily understood. Football is played for two 45 minute halves + stoppage time (determined by match officials to cover pauses in play). Only in cup competitions will a game go to 'extra-time' or penalties. Yellow and Red cards can be (and have been) awarded for time wasting. Even a nil all draw can be enthralling, as the skills shown by both sides are showcased. Only 3 player changes are allowed per team. The pace is fast, the quality is usually excellent, and the fans get their money's worth. Team talks aren't held during the game. They have their game plan in place BEFORE the whistle is blown for kick off. I find American football unfocused, with WAY too much time spent on tactic changes during the game, it goes on all day, and there is very little in the way of free flowing play. That's why. |
