Question: Try again, folks. restating my question about soccer.?

I had asked: If the governing body of soccer, FIFA, is located in Switzerland, then why are all the field measurements made in yards? You people tell me that they are in meters and are converted and that since I'm in the US I only hear yards. OBVIOUSLY there is a conversion, I'm not retarded. Now what you clowns need to understand is that the measurements were more than likely initially made in yards because it is hard to imagine a bunch of people deciding to make a line at 5.4864 meters (6 yards) and another at 16.4592 meters (18 yards). So I will now restate my question. Why were the measurements INITIALLY made in yards? |

Soccer dimensions were originally regulated by the Football Association created by the English in the late 19th century. England was not full metricated until 1965. Therefore, the use of yards and feet was their official rule of measure. Although the Swiss were metricated in 1876, they kept a lot of the rules, dimensions, etc. from the Football Association. lp |

I think yards were commonly used in England in that time. |
