Eg. goalie striker defender passer if the play is set up like this and the striker is in front of the defender and the passer passes to the striker when the striker is in front of the defender it is offside. but if the striker is behind the defender and its a through ball and the striker gets it its not an offside. sorry if its confusing its hard to explain without visually showing you
